The Future of Freight - ENSEMBLE on BBC's emission "People Fixing the World"

Platooning is raising more and more attention and interest in the world of transport.

The ENSEMBLE project, greatly represented by Ms. Marika Hoedemaeker from TNO, the coordinator, participated to the UK radio programme "People Fixing the World", during the episode dedicated to "The Future of Freight".

Reporter William Kremer addressed the challenges of making eco-friendly lorries and trucks, to comply with the European vision of reducing CO2 emissions from road transport, and explored the new alternatives implemented in some of the EU Countries, such as Germany.

Ms. Hoedemaeker presented the truck platooning concept and technology behind ENSEMBLE, mentioning its potential benefits in terms of safety and traffic flow.

"When, as a lorry driver, you start your trip, you are on the highway, on your own in a truck, and you need to find one or two other trucks that you want to form a platoon with. There we have the match-making surface that can detect who is around you, who is going in the same direction, and you can make a match. You can see it as a Tinder for trucks!"
